Using your own container?

We advise using our own easy to clean glass bottles to store and enjoy our delicious milk. They are available to purchase alongside our milk vending machine and can be reused and recycled over and over again.

However, if you want to recycle a suitable alternative container from home, please make sure it fits in our machine and…

It’s clean

Make sure your bottle is beautifully clean to keep our fresh milk tasting great.

It smells fresh

If you’re using a recycled container, make sure it smells clean and doesn’t taint the milk.

It’s suitable for food

Please don’t use containers that have been used for anything other than a food product for your safety.

If in doubt…

Ideally, use one of our easy to clean, glass bottles. Buy it once, keep it clean and keep reusing it. They’re made for the job!

Organic

Good for you, our cows and the environment.

Our organic farming activities extend to 1500 acres on the Chichester Plain and the South Downs.

Our milk comes from our organic dairy herd at Woodhorn Farm, where our family has farmed since 1882.

Our herd of 250 free-range cows are at the heart of everything we do. Their health and welfare is our top priority and ensures we produce the best quality, delicious milk for you to enjoy. The cows happily graze on fresh green grass and clover pastures for much of the year apart from when it’s cold and wet as like us, they prefer to be inside.

Our milk is pasteurised within a few hours of milking before arriving at the Oving Cow Shed for you to fill your bottle, take home and enjoy.  To preserve the natural flavour and  creaminess, we don’t homogenise our milk.

As well as being available to purchase directly from the Oving Cow Shed, we also supply our milk to the Organic Milk Cooperative, Organic Herd. They in turn supply major food brands and national supermarket chains.

Woodhorn Farm also produces a range of organic arable crops including wheat, beans, peas, oats, spring barley and maize. Much of this is grown to maximise the amount of home grown feed for our cows, but we also sell feed and seed to other organic farms. The wheat we produce goes to make organic bread and our barley is used for beer.

Organic farming is a method that protects and encourages wildlife, whilst looking after the health of the soil. Instead of relying on chemicals, we strive to work with nature to feed the soil and control pests. We use crop rotations and clover to also help build fertility in the soil. Frosts also help us by killing off bugs, flies and viruses that challenge the cows and crops.

There are plenty of benefits of organic farming, though most people often think of the absence of pesticides and/or antibiotics. For us it is also about the environment as a whole and by not using pesticides we have seen a transformation of the flora and fauna on the farm.

Woodhorn Farm

Organic farming at its best.
